S-Parameter Measurement Setup

Before you run OFF-State (zero bias) or ON-State (bias) S-parameter characterization tests, you must do some setup and configuration.

Software Licensing

Important Licensing Information: The PD1000A Control Software requires a license, PD1010A, to run the S-parameter tests and a separate license, PD1020A, to run Double-Pulse tests. See Software Licensing for more information.

Install the E5080A ENA Executable File

In addition to the PD1000A Control Software, you need to download and install one Configuration Tool executable file. See Install PD1000A Configuration Files for more information. The ConfigurationTool.exe file configures on the E5080A ENA and must be installed before running S-parameter tests. Keysight recommends that you save this executable downloaded file to a memory stick. Refer to the PD1000A Startup Guide for detailed instructions on installing the files.

Set Up the Output Directory

Click Settings in the upper left corner of the display window, then select Global Settings. Enter the complete file path for where you want to save the measured data. For example:

Debug Mode:

Check this box to cause the system to send a SCPI SYST:ERR? command after each command to identify any errors in the system measurements. Use the IO Monitor utility in the IO Libraries Suite to monitor communication between the host PC and the DPT system test instruments and to view the error messages.

Output Directory

This field displays the current directory to store the: IV and CV, Double-Pulse Test, OnState S-Parameter, or Off-State S-Parameter test data. This folder is common to all tests.

IMPORTANT: You must provide this folder and path to the PEMG software for device modeling.

Next Steps

After initial setup, there are three main steps to running the tests:

Step 1. S-Parameter Hardware Measurement Control

Step 2. Configure S-Parameter Test Settings

Step 3. Calibrate the E5080A/B ENA or Using a Keysight E5061B ENA Vector Network Analyzer

Step 4. Run the S-Parameter Device Characterization Test
